Do Over

Do you have ever have one of those days where you want to hit the rewind button and start over? Today has been one of those days for me. And not in a “I’m having a horrible day and thus I’m a complete b-word.” No, I’m trying my darnedest to turn it into a positive day. So it’s more like, “I’m really uncomfortable and puffy and things haven’t been going as smoothly as I planned or would like.”

For example, I planned to get up this morning and go for a run or hop on the bike and knock a few miles out. Then the alarm went off, and instead of hopping out of bed at 6:00am as planned, I snoozed until 6:40am. It was one of those mornings where you wake up feeling anything but refreshed (even though you went to bed early the night before).

That was followed by the realization that yesterday I left my favorite spring jacket and all of make-up at my grandparent’s house, which is two hours away. Needless to say, a surprise visit to the grandparent’s (and maybe a stop at the outlet mall to cheer myself up) will be happening this weekend!

After digging out some old, OLD makeup I thankfully had stashed away in the back of my closet, I stepped onto the scale looking for a pick-me-up. I thought I had passed the time of the month where I store water like a freaking camel (you feel me, ladies?), but I guess not. I gained 2 pounds. I know it’s just water retention, but it still sucks because my food and exercise was on point this weekend–which I was so proud of, since Easter is typically chock full of chocolate, wine, my grandma’s amazing calorific concoctions, and inactivity.

On the drive in to work, I found myself thinking, “can I just start over? Let’s try this morning again.” But alas, no sick day or working from home for me. I’m powering through, reclaiming this beautifully sunny Monday!

To combat the bloat (gross!) and flush all the nastiness out, I chugged 16 ounces of lemon water this am and will be having a giant serving of cantaloupe for lunch (both believed to help with water retention). I’ve also been downing bottle after bottle of water all morning (I’ve had 4 bottles, or roughly 67 ounces already). This isn’t unusual, since I try to hit 100 ounces of water per day, but my body has literally been craving water–which tells me I’m a bit dehydrated and I need it, and makes me feel confident that the way gain is strictly water retention.

I’m also craving a run–which kinda makes me smile 🙂 Me? Craving exercise? Better yet, craving a run? What a nice change of pace!

Okay, I’m off to seize this damn day! Happy Monday, all!

Do you have any suggestions for how to fight water weight? What do you do when your day isn’t going quite right?
